Mrs Philippa Dixon

Year 2 Class Teacher

MA Head of Oates House

I joined Willington in 2011. My association runs a little further back to 2005 when my son started his time at the school in Reception.

Areas of responsibility - I have enjoyed a range of exciting roles at Willington, starting as a TA in Year 3 before moving to a full time maternity cover teaching in Year 3. I have taught English, Maths and Science as a subject in Year 4, as well as Science in Years 4-6. I was delighted to be offered a role as class teacher in Year 2 when the position became available.

Languages spoken - English, Afrikaans, I get by in Dutch, and I’m not giving up on my daily French practice on Duolingo!

My first school - Growing up in the small town of Uitenhage on the edge of the Karoo in South Africa, my first school was called College Hill Preparatory School. It was run by a very stern Headmistress who kept the parents in line as much as the pupils. My overriding memory is of being offered  a Smartie chocolate as a reward for allowing one of our teachers to pull out a wobbly tooth! I guess health and safety wasn’t such a priority back then!

Fondest childhood memory - My friend’s mum ran stables and any spare moment I had was spent with her around the busy stable yard filled dogs and horses! What fun we had! All these years later, on Facebook, people are are still sharing their fond childhood memories of this happy place.
