SCIENCE WEEK
Elephant's Toothpaste, Chameleons and Snakes - it must be Science Week
Starting with assembly entitled “Fizz, Bang and Wallop”, Willington Boys had a wonderful Science Week. Experiments performed in front of the whole school included “make our own volcano” and “elephant’s toothpaste” (pictured). The more scientific explanation of the latter is Iron (ii) oxide acting as a catalyst to remove the oxygen from the hydrogen peroxide. The experiment created a reaction called an Exothermic Reaction – that means it not only created foam, it also created heat! Our guest visitor was the “Animal Man” with a wide collection of spiders, chameleons and snakes, which the boys took turns to hold – some with a little more trepidation than others.
